Ridgefield 6th Annual BIG Paddle Day

 
 
 

The Paddle event at the Port begins at 9:00 with a Chinook Drumming and Blessing ceremony. Then, a flotilla of kayaks and canoes will paddle five miles round-trip along Lake River to the confluence with the Columbia River. The flotilla will include the Chinook Tribe's 30' canoe and the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership's two 34' canoes. Paddle participants will experience the sights and sounds of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, visit historical sites like where Lewis & Clark landed, and enjoy water healthy fun and recreation. 

Ridgefield Kayak is providing rental kayaks or paddleboards at a reduced rate for recreational users joining the flotilla or participants may bring their own canoe, kayak or paddleboard. Contact Ridgefield Kayak at 360-727-4520 or Ridgefieldkayak@comcast.net or www.ridgefieldkayak.com.

Ridgefield is celebrating the river on June 3rd, 2017 with its Sixth Annual BIG Paddle.

Enjoy a pancake breakfast in downtown Ridgefield and then head to the Port for a two hour canoe, kayak or paddleboard adventure OR enjoy other festivities like vendors at Paddler's Village at the Port, a Totally Awesome Scavenger Challenge around the Ridgefield area, live music with Chicamarimba, a beer garden, an obstacle course for all ages, First Saturday events including a Farmer's Market in historic downtown Ridgefield and a "Follow the Fish" trail connecting the two areas.

Following the paddle enjoy live music along with an anniversary celebration and toast for multiple agencies that are active in supporting the Wildlife Refuge, the water trail and other outdoor activities and the Big Paddle including: Ridgefield Kayak (12 years), Cathlapotle Plankhouse (12 years), Friends of the Refuge (17 years), Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership (22 years), the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge (52 years) and the Port of Ridgefield (77 years).

8:30am - show up and get your boat ready!

9:00am - Drum ceremony and Blessing Ceremony

9:30am - Launch the boats

11:30 - return to the dock

Rental customer check-in begins at 8:30am at Ridgefield Kayaking

We will return to the same location we launched from in Ridgefield, WA.

Customers have the option to use their own gear with approval. (Boats need to have secure buoyancy in the stern and immersion wear must be worn most of the year).  Bring your own lunch, binocs, rain gear always, dry set of clothes for the car.

 

  • - Sunglasses with retention device (i.e. Croakies, Chums, etc)
  • - NO COTTON Synthetic top and bottom layers (thermal underwear, heavier wt. for cooler weather)
  • - Nylon shorts and/or swimsuit for warmer days
  • -Hiking style wool or synthetic socks
  • - Water bottle and small snack (like a power bar...)
  • - Towel and change of clothes for ride home

  • -River shoes or booties

The Pacific Northwest is a dynamic and often unpredictable environment. All activities are run/fun rain or shine. All programs are conditions dependent and may change at any time at our discretion. In order to keep our programs affordable a minimum number of participants may be required. If we are unable to fill a program to a minimum requirement level we reserve the right to cancel the program. A full refund will be provided in the event of a cancelled or re-scheduled activity upon request. Please allow 48 hour notice for any cancellations or changes in your reservation.
