This full day class is held in sheltered water. We focus on efficiency and effectiveness of the full range of strokes, bilaterally and in both forward and reverse directions. Rather than emphasizing specific, fixed strokes we will explore the continuum of body, boat and paddle blade positions that are appropriate for different scenarios. We emphasize bio-mechanical efficiency and safety, appropriate paddle blade and shaft articulation, and how to exploit the behavioral characteristics of your kayak's hull design using different degrees of edging and trim. We focus on blending strokes together and making an appropriate selection of strokes for specific scenarios. By integrating formal instruction with fun challenges and self-discovery learning exercises we make the course informative and fun. This course will help you achieve full command of your kayak and will build a firm and essential foundation for paddling in more advanced conditions.
